Northside Baptist Church

Northside Baptist Church began in 1954 when the Lord laid upon the heart of a man named Fred Groom, the need for an independent Baptist church in the Carrollton/Farmer’s Branch area of North Texas. Six people signed a charter to reach our city for God; thus making official the Northside Baptist Church. The first services were held on September 19, 1954 housed in the Carrollton Community Hall* in downtown Carrollton. Before long, with 35 members attending, the church outgrew those facilities and was in need of a new meeting place. One day, Pastor Groom received a call from the Whitlock family, who owned a vast amount of land, to tell him of a donation to the church of a small piece of farmland north of Carrollton at the intersection of Denton Dr. and Whitlock Ln.

The Northside Baptist Church immediately began construction of a new building on that property. With construction completed in October of 1956, services moved into that new building - what has now become the Fellowship Hall/Youth Room.

Within just a few years the need for classrooms was at the top of the list of church needs. In 1962, that need was met with the addition of the classroom wing extending East from the main building. To satisfy the need for fellowships (anyone who has been around our church for any length of time knows that fellowships means having food), a kitchen was constructed on the south side of the main building. Around the same time, more land was purchased providing the Northside Baptist Church with a total of 2 1/3 acres. With the church continuing to grow, in just 4 years (1966), the church constructed a new sanctuary building. This sanctuary still stands and seats up to 350 people.

During the late sixties, a new pastor took leadership of the church. Pastor Bill Buckingham served for over ten years and, under his leadership, the church purchased an additional 3.22 acres of adjacent land. After his lengthy tenure as pastor, Bro. Buckingham resigned. In 1980, the church called Bill Berryhill who pastored briefly. In 1981, Bro. Tommy Bass was instated as pastor and served our congregation until late 1985.

In 1986, the Northside Baptist Church extended a call to a new pastor named J. Mark Dallalio. Under his spiritual guidance and the continuing passion for reaching our community for Christ, the church again began to experience record growth. Recognizing this growth and the need for more space, the church created a master plan for construction of new facilities and immediately began construction of the Family Life Center (affectionately known as “The Gym”). This new structure, completed in 1992, provided four new classrooms, an apartment for visiting missionaries and other guests, a much larger kitchen (for those important fellowships), and a gymnasium/Fellowship Hall.

In 2001, our church had outgrown our facilities yet again. We were borrowing classrooms from the school next door to facilitate all of our Sunday morning Bible study and Sunday School classes. Under our pastor's leadership, we entered into a new building program in 2002. This new building program included adding an additional wing onto the North side of our Family Life Center to house our growing Youth department. The new Youth wing includes a dedicated Youth room and two smaller classrooms for youth needs.

The building program also included the construction of a brand new worship center building that contained a 550 seat primary auditorium, new nursery facilities, and new staff offices. The building also contains an additional classroom and a conference room. With the construction of this new building, the pastor's old office has been converted for use as a classroom, while two more of the old offices have been converted into offices for our growing AWANA program. The addition of the new nursery facilities has allowed our church to utilize both the new and old facilities to separate our young children into more age appropriate groups allowing for better care of our youngest members and guests.

The plans for our old auditorium are to convert it into five additional classrooms and a small chapel for smaller events and weddings. Work on that renovation is scheduled to begin in the near future.

As our church continues to grow, we invite you to come be a part of what the Lord is doing in our church.

*Side note: The Carrollton Community hall building was torn down in 2001 and replaced by what is now the Gravley Center and is located at the intersection of Beltline Road and Broadway on the north side of old downtown Carrollton.
