2006 - A YEAR FOR BRIDGE BUILDING Every so often we hear ourselves and others saying something to the effect, “Wow, I can’t believe that we’re at the beginning of another year!”  We often make these types of statements out of some sense of regret for the failed accomplishments of the previous year.  It is unreasonable to expect making all of our goals, but the truth is we wouldn’t have accomplished anything without first setting a target.  Yes, the new year calls for us to learn from our failings but not be consumed by them. Build on your successes and allow both your achievements and mistakes to be stimuli to go to a higher level in all facets of your life.  The Scriptures were careful to point out that “Jesus increased (grew) in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52). May we enter this new year with the same balanced approach to grow mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. On a personal level, I challenge you to set your goals accordingly to make 2006 profitable. As we move into the new year as a church, our theme will be that of “Bridge Builders.”  There are ministry opportunities all around here in the north Dallas corridor.  We must continue to grow “outside our comfort zones” to make the impact God intends for us to make in our community. I call upon you to share in this vision of “building bridges” by allowing God to use your gifts, talents and resources to span the gap to those estranged from the truth of God.  As Mary said at the annunciation of Christ’s birth, “For with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 2:37).  Straight Ahead!
